Day 7 - Nature

Nature is a beauty we can never escape. Even here at Carthage College, this is apparent. These two pictures represent the scenic beauty that makes Carthage College the place it is. Who doesn't enjoy a view of the lake? The final picture is of a beautiful Wisconsin sunset. For me, this beautiful image represents the coming of Spring and better weather. At the same time, its just a simple image in a world of pictures.

Day 6 - Entertainment

In college, entertainment sometimes has to be cheap and easy. TV is a good form of cheap and trashy entertainment. The first picture is unfortunately not of my TV, but of the Oaks lounge TV. Talking on the cell phone is not a cheap form of entertainment, but is still common. What about taking pictures? As you can see, I decided to take a picture of myself in the mirror. What can I say, I was bored.

Day 5 - Room

Here are a few pictures of my room. As said before, a students room is an important place. In a way, its our own little world of escape. We sleep here, as picture one clearly presents. The second picture is of the ceiling, something we stare at each night before going to bed. Since I like to read, I included a picture of some books. You can also see a picture within a picture. This picture was taken in Chicago and includes family and friends, something very important to me.

Day 6 - Architecture

I have always been interested in architecture. This picture of the Holy Rosary Church in Kenosha represents this interest. I have often passed this church before and have always been
fascinated by its Baroque architecture.

Day 5 - Transportation

Everyone needs a form of transportation. Some people have Audi's and Porsche's while the rest of us have old, rusty things. Still, my car usually gets me from point a to point b. One can't have a car without a set of keys. My set of keys can be seen hanging from the door. Can't loose those! Since I don't want to embarrass myself, pictures of my license plate and tire can also be seen here. Transportation is transportation!

Day 4 - Food

Eating in college can sometimes be a challenge. A typical college student might live off of bread, water, and Ramen noodles. Coming from a very European family, bread is a staple of the my college diet. For me, it has to be a good European bread, none of that wonder bread junk. Then there is popcorn, a good late night snack. To wash it all down, a good bottle of water.

Day 4 - Cathage does Care

These are also two things I see everyday. The first picture is a fire alarm that is often set off
by daring students. Like the exit sign, it is also red. Strange coincidence? The second picture is from the elevator and is only to be used in emergency situations. To be honest, I have accidentally used the push for help button before. When reaching for the fifth floor button, my backpack hit the call for help button. I then have to tell security that it was just an accident. I have done this at least two times this year. I think the yellow outline of the button is interesting.
Why is it not red? I think yellow is a mellow, soothing color that represents safety and care. Perhaps this explains why the outline color is yellow.

Day 3 - This is the way!

These five pictures show things I see everyday during the journey to class. It all starts with
the hallway that leads to the exit sign that then leads to the elevator and stairs. Speaking of exit signs, why are they always red? I guess visually speaking, the large red letters of the sign are meant to grab your attention. Red is a color of attention, power, and dominance. If you go to the UK, most of the exit signs are green. I wonder why? Interesting? And finally the card machine that lets us back in our homes. Many Freshman are told each time you swipe your student ID here, it counts as one of your meal swipes. Those Freshman sure do learn quickly.

Day 3 - Neighbors

As you can see, my neighbors are warning me not to scratch their door anymore. I have a strange habit of scratching their door each time I go by. They always know its me when they hear the infamous scratch. They usually don't mind me scratching the door, but with midterms,
that all changed this past week. I will try my best not to scratch your door neighbors!

Day 2 - Music

Music is an important part of my life. Who doesn't like music? For most of my life, I have always played an instrument. I have played the piano, clarinet, Irish tin whistle, accordion, and even the spoons. The first picture represents one of my favorite instruments, the piano. I began to play the piano at age seven. I still remember my grandfather writing the notes on the piano
keys for me. I am very grateful for this because it introduced to the wonderful world of music.
The second picture is something we all recognize: a CD player. This is also another good source of music. For those who cannot play an instrument, they can always play a CD. These days, I think I find myself playing more CD's!

Day 2 - Work

It's my name again! As you can see, this is my name tag from Piggly Wiggly, the grocery
store I'm currently working at. From stocking to cashiering to bagging, I do it all. I especially enjoy having contact with the customers. It's always a good feeling to know you're helping somebody. I have worked in retail for 5 years now and have enjoyed it. For me, providing good and efficient customer service is my main priority at work. This picture represents my dedication and service to my customers. This is an important aspect of my life. Visually speaking, I think the Piggly Wiggly name tags are leveled and offer no visual surprise. I think the tags were also designed to make customers feel happy. Perhaps the pig is smiling because he also knows this.

Day 2 - Where I Live

I live in Oaks A on the fifth floor. The first picture is taken from outside on a not so beautiful day in Kenosha. This is my first year living in the Oaks and I like it very much. A bit more expensive true, but a lot more privacy and space for yourself. For many students, the dorm room is the center of college life. This is where we sleep, work, and think. These two pictures
represent the importance of the dorm room.

Day 1 - That's my name!

Hello! I think the best way to begin a blog is with your name and here it is. This picture is from
my dorm room in Oaks A. I'm not sure who created it, but I like it. I think its also ironic that the theme revolves around gambling. (cards and chips) I thought gambling was not allowed on campus? Interesting and funny. But anyways back to my name. As far as I know, the name Steven is of Greek origin and means the "crowned one." That's also funny because I'm far from being royalty.
